Autism Awareness Day

9 April 2019
News

Recently, the people we support in Warrington celebrated 'Autism Awareness Day' by asking what autism means to the people we support.

Andrea Parr, MacIntyre's Area Manager in Warrington spoke to Gemma, a lady supported by MacIntyre who shared her experiences.

"Gemma shared with us what it’s like to store her thoughts and how she imagines a bus or a train with boxes on the seats with different files on them. Each file has thoughts in or things in that she is able to recall."

When discussing autism, other people supported by MacIntyre said:

"Autism is looking around at things differently"

"I know what autism is, it’s about me!"

Andrea Parr added:

"Thank you to everyone for sharing and for each person who came and contributed to such wonderful outcomes for one another. I think it’s important to remember ‘Autism is not one person’s journey, it’s a family’s journey."
