What does a normal day look like in your role?

A normal day looks like supporting the people we support to meet up with friends and family members, attend day centres, as well as activity sessions in the local community. I also support the people we support to go out and about, whether that’s taking day trips or holidays.

When I’m supporting people in their homes, I could be supporting with activities such as baking, helping people keep in touch with friends and family virtually, arts and crafts and gardening particularly during lockdown.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The part I most enjoy is seeing the reaction of the people we support when they are taking part in an activity they really enjoy.

Can you describe your favourite memory or experience at MacIntyre?

In 2015, a colleague and I supported a couple of the people to go away on holiday to Dawlish Warren for a long weekend. One of the people we support had not been on holiday for a long time. Seeing how much they enjoyed themselves and how they interacted with their friends was an amazing experience.
