Working at MacIntyre - a case study
Diane joined MacIntyre 22 years ago after previously working in a nursery setting. Within her first year, she quickly progressed to a Senior Support Worker role, demonstrating a strong ability to learn, adapt, and lead.
Now, after 21 years in this position, Diane continues to be an integral part of the Warrington team. She finds her role both rewarding and meaningful, particularly in balancing direct support with leadership responsibilities.
An enjoyable role
Diane enjoys the administrative and organisational aspects of her role, including managing support guidelines, maintaining documentation, and overseeing supervisions. She is passionate about supporting both her colleagues and the people who draw on MacIntyre’s support. Her approach focuses on maintaining morale, helping colleagues through challenges, and fostering a sense of teamwork and unity.
She describes the Senior Support Worker role as one that requires compassion, strong communication, good time management, and the ability to stay calm and supportive when others are struggling.
Strong relationships
Diane also emphasises the importance of having a strong relationship with managers, noting that the supportive environment in Warrington, from the Area Manager down has been key to her well-being and job satisfaction.
One of Diane’s proudest achievements has been being nominated for MacIntyre's Marjorie Newton Wright Awards, both individually and as part of her team.
While she acknowledges that the role comes with challenges and the salary may not always reflect the level of responsibility, Diane says the culture, teamwork, and encouragement she receives make a huge difference. She feels valued, supported, and proud of the contribution she makes every day.
