Today we share Penny’s story

We understand that transitions can be daunting for young people with a learning disability and stressful for their families.

MacIntyre get to know each person making sure that transitions are carefully planned and everyone’s voice is heard. Involving families every step of the way not only prepares families for the future of their loved one, but helps build positive relationships by offering reassurance and answering questions.

Nicky Payne, our Family Engagement Consultant, hosts the MacIntyre Families Podcast. Each episode contains powerful conversations with family members sharing their experiences and providing guidance to listeners.

In one episode Nicky talks with Penny, mum to Zoe who joined MacIntyre School & Children’s Home a few years ago. Penny talks about her own experience of when her daughter joined the school and how important it was to be included in the plans and conversations about Zoe’s future.

Penny says:

"They (MacIntyre) just 'get it'. They understand it, they understand her. I always feel confident that someone is looking to find a solution, but not always looking to find a solution, working with me and our family to find the best solution for Zoe."
