Every penny raised during the Big Give Christmas Challenge 2021 will be used to develop MacIntyre family support sessions, workshops and co-produced resources to help families feel more equipped, empowered and better connected.
Parenting isn't always easy, but for Jo, 'going into battle' for her daughter Jess, now 32, has never stopped. By the age of five, Jess was diagnosed with a learning disability, as well as some impaired sight and physical disabilities.
Jo says:
“Finding MacIntyre was a breath of fresh air; Jess was happy immediately.”
Now in her 60s, Jo is turning her attention to Jess' future and what this will look like when she and Jess' dad are no longer able to be there and how MacIntyre will play a huge role.
“As I’m getting older my worry is who’s going to be around for Jess when Jess’ dad and I are no longer there. Jess has a wonderful brother, but he has a young family and I don’t want to – and I hate to use this word – burden him with the fights that we’re going through, so to have something like MacIntyre just gives me peace of mind.
“I think what MacIntyre’s been very good at lately is talking about death and what happens when they get older. I think Jess realises now that I’m not always going to be there and what she’s going to do so it’s important for MacIntyre to be on top of that already.”
The Families team at MacIntyre want to continue supporting parents and siblings to prepare for the future and to do this we need your help. Please donate to the Big Give Christmas Challenge. Remember anything you give this week will be doubled!
