Recently, the Central Bedfordshire Shared Lives team of Joe (Frontline Manager) and Regan (Shared Lives Officer) took part in the Bike Week challenge. The challenge involved biking to and from work all week from the 6th -12th June, including a whole day at the office on an exercise bike. All funds raised went towards the Shared Lives Week Jubilee Street Party which took place on the 11th June 2022.
Speaking on the challenge, Joe said:
“It was a big challenge for us to commit to cycle to and from work throughout the week as well as adding to the miles in our spare time. Also, signing up for an entire day at the office on an exercise bike was something that would test our resilience. 219km later and our legs were not the same as they were on the Monday morning. However, knowing that it was all to raise funds (£230 in total) for our Shared Lives Street Party at the end of the week kept us going.”
Regan added:
“To raise more than enough to buy all of the food and some games for the attendees to take part in was fantastic, and the Jubilee party itself could not have gone better. Our first face-to-face event since before the pandemic was the perfect setting for some of our families to get together and share their wealth of experience with one another. The conversation and tea and coffee flowed well and the weather was perfect, so the street party vibe was in full swing. So much so that we chatted way past the time we were due to finish, but why stop the conversation when everyone was enjoying themselves?! An excellent day event to kick off Shared Lives Week 2022.”
