by Robbie Mason, Community Connector
I am a part of the Passport to Leisure group.
We are a group of people that have got disabilities and we get to go on trips, do activities together and that sort of thing.
We recently went to the Banksy exhibition in South Kensington. It was really good. I liked the graffiti art. He’s so good! I didn’t know he was that good. I have some of his stuff on my bedroom wall but I didn’t know the amount of great stuff he has also done.
In April, our group was asked by Raj, the manager of MacIntyre’s Station Road home in Hertfordshire if we could help them to paint their garden fence. They were planning an Easter event for the community and they wanted the garden to look nice.
There were about nine or ten of us who came to help. When we got there, Raj had all the paint and brushes ready for us.
It was nice because all of the staff recognised me from my community connector role with MacIntyre Our Voice project!
We had lots of fun painting together and the weather was really nice.
It makes me feel good to help out in the community, to give back as well to people.
Other things we have done to help in the community is tree planting. This was in Highfield Park.
Salpi is good at finding these opportunities for us, she’s marvellous at that and for finding these things for us to do!
Whilst we sometime go out for fun social activities, it’s really important that we also do helpful things.
I love helping others, it feels good.
