Being in paid employment gives us a lot more than a salary. It can give a sense of purpose, of community, of contribution. But paid employment is something that people with a learning disability, or Autistic people, often struggle to find.
An important part of the Big Plan is to make sure that people who draw on our support have opportunities for paid employment. This can sometimes be within MacIntyre, and sometimes outside with other companies.
It’s important that everyone who works for us or another employer has appropriate support and opportunities to develop their skills, talents and knowledge, and the Big Plan is part of making this happen.
This ambition is closely linked to the work of our Community Coordinators, Ambassadors and Job Coaches, who are forging links with local employers across the country.
We have an Employment Working Group helping us to plan in detail what we can do to support people with options for paid jobs.
Some examples of people employed with MacIntyre include members of the Health Team, the MacIntyre Checkers and the MacIntyre Dancers among many more.
Watch these two films to hear people’s experiences of what it is like to have a job and why it is important to them.
