The MacIntyre Checkers play an important role in ensuring that all Easy Read documents shared across MacIntyre and externally are fit for purpose. The group are proud to be MacIntyre employees and have all grown in confidence since starting work.
In 2018, the group welcomed Tim, who was thrilled to become the latest MacIntyre Checker. As this was Tim’s first paid role, he wanted to make a good impression. As a result of his hard work and preparation, Tim was pleased to be offered the position.
Speaking about his new role, Tim said:
“I wanted to earn my own money, so the staff helped me to get a paid job in MacIntyre. I check paperwork a tick the good stuff off and cross out the bad stuff.”
Working alongside staff, Tim began to develop his independence, focusing on developing his interview skills, as well as developing his confidence when travelling.
Describing his journey to becoming a MacIntyre Checker, Tim added:
“Staff helped me to get the job and did practice interviews with me. I have been doing travel training, so staff have been going on the train with me. I’ve also been getting the bus by myself.”
Since joining the Checkers, Tim has certainly found his feet. With a busy 2019 ahead of them, The MacIntyre Checkers continue to be a valuable asset to MacIntyre, helping us all to ensure documents are accessible for all.
“I like wearing my purple work clothes and I’ve made friends with people who help me out. I like being a part of MacIntyre.”
