by Peter Connor, Great Communities Manager
When Russell is listening to the radio he will tell you the song, the artist and the year it came out. And he’s always right!
I jokingly said to Russell – I’d like you on my quiz team! Russell said he would love to go to a quiz or even host his own quiz. We thought about how we could do it together and make this happen. We have a relatively new space in Warrington called the Living Well Hub and we spoke to them and introduced the manager to Russell. They hit it off and she offered the space to Russell on a Friday once a month.
Russell’s specialist subject is music, particularly 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Russell asked some of his friends to contribute their interests to make sure that there was something for everyone. Ciaran came up with a film round and Rory does general knowledge. Nicole is the barista. It’s a team effort!
Russell always has good numbers and has different teams joining him. Teams from Chester Uni Nursing Students, Wolves Foundation, LiveWire, Fit to Tackle, Puddle Project and Mind in Warrington as well as MacIntyre Learning Centre and Shared Lives. It’s been a brilliant way to meet people and Russell is giving back, making sure that people have fun and a chance to connect.
Russell is good at bringing people together. I have noticed how much more confident Russell is and how he owns it and leads on it. At the end of the quiz, he takes a bow.
Emma from the Living Well hub said:
We’ve built a fantastic partnership with MacIntyre, who bring energy, fun, and creativity to the hub with their monthly themed quizzes. Their sessions are always a highlight - bringing people together, sparking conversation, and creating a real sense of community.
Russell says:
I like doing the quiz as I like to show people my pop music and general knowledge skills and I love it as I’ve met new people and like giving out prizes to the winners at the end. In the future I want more people to come to the quiz too.
