We’re continuing our ‘Day in the Life’ series at MacIntyre No Limits’.
Every No Limits learner’s pathway is personal and matches their goals and ambitions:
- Onwards to Engagement
- Onwards to Independence
- Onwards to Employment
- Onwards to Further Education
Here’s how two learners in Nuneaton recently spent their day:
David* arrived at No Limits around 9.30am. To settle in after his journey he chose a jigsaw to work on with his two staff before cooking up some lunch – David loves spicy food so he chose tacos and had done the necessary food shopping for the recipe with staff support. David was involved in every step of preparing the lunch, with encouragement and support from his team. David joined No Limits in September, the main Pathway for his learning is around Independence.
Ben* attends No Limits two days a week. He’s picked up in the morning from home by MacIntyre staff who later drop him back – an ideal time to update his mum on how his day has gone. On this day Ben had spent the morning at the local library: Ben loves looking at books - particularly those with dogs where he can identify – and verbalise - numerous breeds. He returned to the No Limits hub for lunch, carefully supported by staff as he can be at risk of choking if he eats too fast, and taking the opportunity to develop his fine motor skills. After lunch, the team consolidated some of the activity from the morning by looking at different animals and using words to describe the animals and insects that were being ably drawn by Sinitta, one of his team.
Ben has been with No Limits for two years, the main Pathway for his learning is around Engagement.
And what about the staff who are working with each learner? Each learner has a core team. On the day in question Ben’s team was Sinitta and Richard, both Community Teaching Facilitators.
Sinitta has been with MacIntyre since 2017, starting her MacIntyre career in adult social care in Leicestershire. While she enjoyed her time with adult social care, Sinitta found that No Limits was more suited to her desire to constantly be adapting and learning how to meet each learner’s needs.
Richard joined MacIntyre two years ago. He consciously took a different career path a few years ago having previously been a Facilities Manager for a large organisation. Immediately prior to MacIntyre he had worked as a Learning Support Assistant in a SEN school, but now relishes his time at MacIntyre working intensively with each learner. Richard recently completed his Education & Training (EAT) qualification with support from Jackie, MacIntyre’s Training & Development Facilitator, and is one of MacIntyre’s Mental Health First Aiders. Outside his No Limits work,
In Nuneaton MacIntyre currently offers post-16 education to 11 people through MacIntyre No Limits Direct – using Education Other Than At School (EOTAS) funding direct from the local authority – and 5 young people who we work with in partnership with Homefield College.
