Ben's bird boxes

11 July 2025
News

Ben, from Ampthill in Bedfordshire, enjoys woodwork and has got all the tools. It’s what he loves to do in his spare time and he’s passionate about it – there’s nothing better than getting a new sander!

Taking a hobby further

Ben thought about how he could use his talent and hobby to make some money. He thought about what people may want to buy.

Ben made some bird and hedgehog boxes, shelves and a key holder. He went to a local coffee shop called The Social and spoke with them about displaying and selling the boxes to their customers. There’s also a set of shops near where he lives, including a hairdressers, and Ben went in and gave them his business card and order forms.

A hedgehog sanctuary

Ben also met a local woman who runs a hedgehog sanctuary and is looking at how he can help her and the people who rehome hedgehogs.

A budding salesman

Ben has loved getting out and meeting people and has a real buzz from the sales and how well it’s gone! People love his work!

Ben says:

I love woodwork and it makes me happy

What’s next

Ben is looking forward to spending the money he has made on redecorating his room and then... he wants to keep going!

Ben is looking for new places and spaces to advertise and new items to make. He’s also looking for a job so if there’s anyone out there who wants to connect with a talented woodworker (and salesman) [javascript protected email address]!
