Connecting in The Wirral

16 December 2024
Blog post

by Louisa Roberts, Service Manager

Thinking about how to grow our neighbourhood connections, we had heard about an organisation called Involve Northwest. They are local to us on the Wirral. Their Facebook said that they help locally and were community connectors so we invited them to come and meet some of our staff and people supported.

Leanne and Andy came to speak with the team. They were brilliant! They told us about what they did and some of the things happening locally. Some of the things we knew about and hadn’t been to for ages. Others were new. They asked what we liked and which organisations and people we knew.

A Tranmere link

Ronnie is a big Tranmere Rovers fan and they told us about the link they have with them and that they have a celebration on Boxing Day where he could have a free meal and watch the game. They told us about tickets for some of the music venues and gigs locally.

What could we do to help?

But we didn’t just want to know what was happening, we also wanted to know what we could do to help.

Ronnie loves his arts and crafts and with Cheryl has made lots of stars to hang up for Christmas. There are too many for us to display in the house so we asked if there was anywhere that may need a hand brightening their walls.

Leah and Jacqui shared about their volunteering for a local homeless shelter and asked if they could help collect Christmas jumpers for a Christmas event they are helping at.

Jac loves to DJ and has all the equipment, and they have a celebration each year where they look for people to perform so this could be a great place for him to help and share his skills.

Finding local venues

We went to have a look at one of the community venues they told us about and found a “Man Cave” with free bacon butties and a brew. They were really excited to hear about Ronnie’s stars and ways that we could work together. We also went to look at the Magic Moments local get togethers where people can chat.

It was great to hear about everything that was happening and we are making a list of places to go and check out and bring back information about.

What about your local area?

Are there Community Connectors in your local area? Why not invite them to a team meeting and ask them to share a bit about what they know!
