It was a double-win for MacIntyre at Anvil Close when Colin Schimmefennig won the Frontline Employee, Adult Services award and the Anvil Close team won the Outstanding Team award at the recent Marjorie Newton Wright Awards.
Colin’s impressive commitment to one person in particular led to this well-deserved win. As a frontline keyworker the support he provided through hospital admissions and deteriorating health was truly inspirational. Colin provided creative support for this person to continue with his usual interests and hobbies such as baking and art, despite decreased mobility. And towards the end, he was able to return home from hospital for a time, as he had wished, due to Colin’s hard work and facilitation.
It was a double win for Colin as he is a member of the Outstanding Team of the year at the awards!
There are so many incredible teams in MacIntyre who epitomise the MacIntyre DNA that it was a tough decision for the judges to choose just one outstanding team. Anvil Close deserved the outstanding team 2021 award because it was evident that they had all gone above and beyond over the past year. They ensured the people supported were kept at the heart of everything, whilst going through very substantial challenges due to Covid, other illnesses, and the sad loss of two ‘big characters’ who they supported.
The entire team offered consistency and stability for people who draw on our support, while remaining positive, committed, resilient and courageous, finding creative ways to support and include people during the pandemic, and support each other during very difficult times.
