Continuing on with our amazing nominees for the Dimensions Leaders' List, we're delighted to celebrate Marc from Wrexham.
Marc – Local Communities Award finalist
Marc loves Christmas. The lights, the decorations, the excitement of seeing festive displays appear in shop windows. It's his favourite time of year.
His nomination explains that while the festive season brings a lot of joy, the build-up to Christmas can also feel overwhelming at times. Rather than letting those feelings take over, Marc wanted to focus on something positive and find a way to bring happiness to other people.
He came up with the idea of creating a free Christmas grotto for local nursery children.
To make it happen, Marc knew he would need money for decorations, presents and everything needed to transform the space. He set himself a challenge to swim lengths at his local pool and, through determination and hard work, raised more than £300.
With the money he raised, Marc bought lights, decorations and gifts, carefully creating a magical grotto filled with festive sparkle. He then contacted local nurseries and sent invitations, welcoming children and their families to visit.
His nomination highlights not only the effort involved in creating the grotto, but the commitment Marc has shown in keeping it going. This year wasn't a one-off. Marc has now hosted the grotto for two years running, putting time, thought and care into making sure local children have a memorable experience.
The feedback has been incredible. One local nursery shared:
"We have been invited to visit the grotto for the past two years and we cannot praise everyone enough, especially Marc who makes the children feel welcome and at ease. He is always smiling and chatty and makes an effort with all the children, going above and beyond to make it a special experience for us all.
His dedication, hard work and efforts throughout the time there was much appreciated, and Marc's warmth and positivity helped make this experience magical for both the children and grown-ups alike.
A huge thank you for letting us share these experiences with the children. I'm sure these memories will stay with them."
Away from Christmas, Marc enjoys a busy life filled with the things that matter to him. He volunteers every Friday at the British Heart Foundation, enjoys visiting his local zoo and loves exploring National Trust properties, especially learning about their history and discovering what's happening there.
Those who know Marc describe him as funny, kind and caring. His Christmas grotto captures all of those qualities. What started as an idea has become something local children and families look forward to each year, creating memories, smiles and a little Christmas magic along the way.
We are so proud of Marc and everything he has achieved. His creativity, determination and generosity have made a lasting difference in his local community.
