At MacIntyre, we put people at the heart of everything we do, and one of the principles that makes up Our Approach is how we connect with other people.
Through Everyone Everywhere, we’re encouraged to get involved with things outside our normal bubble, and seeing what’s going on in our neighbourhoods. This year, we’re looking at all of the ways people can connect at Christmas.
Our Chesterfield team are eagerly getting things ready for the upcoming Wreath Making event and their annual Christmas Fayre!
We caught up with Lisa Duffy, the local manager at Holmewood, to find out more about how people can get involved.
“We have been having our Christmas Fayre for the past 17 years – it’s always very popular and very well supported. The people we support run the stalls, I’d say with support from staff, but they don't need much help to be honest, it’s so highly anticipated, that everyone loves getting involved.
It’s always one of everyone’s highlights!
This year, it’s absolutely action packed, we have:
- Tina's Tombola. Tina and her mum used to run the stall together, sadly Tina’s mum passed away earlier this year, but it’s such a lovely way to keep her in our memories.
- We also have a Bric-a-Brac, with all of the donations from family, friends and staff, as well as an endless array of raffle prizes sourced by people we support and our fabulous staff.
- Our well-known homemade pickles and jams, all of which are made by the people we support (you need to ask about Alan and his onions!)
- Games like Roll a Pound and bottle stall (guess what’s underneath between a bottle of whisky, wine or water)
- Homemade crafts
- Guess the name game (could be a Santa or a polar bear!)
- And so much more!”
So when is it?
Thursday 5 December between 11am-2pm at Holmewood Community Centre.

We also wanted to find out more about the Wreath Making event on Tuesday 3 December at 10:30am at Holmewood Community Centre
The wreath making event came from a suggestion by Kathryn Yates, our Communities and Culture Manager, a couple of years ago; This one will be our third. We’ve reached out to the local care home up the road and we’re hoping that both they, and a few family members, will be joining us again.
Wow, it sounds like you've got a got a busy time coming up? Is there anything else people can get involved with?
Of course! On12 December, we also have a Christmas Lunch day. I’m doing the cooking for about 60 people, with help from Alan (of the onions fame), and it is genuinely one of my favourite days! It is always such a fantastic day, and it really brings everyone together to celebrate.
Be sure to follow us on Facebook, (MacIntyre In Derbyshire) to keep up with our latest news and events in your local area. Together, we can make this holiday season—and every season—one filled with connection, joy, and support for those who need it most.
